New Reprocessing towards Life-Time Quality-Consistent Suomi NPP OMPS Nadir Sensor Data Records (SDR): Calibration Improvements and Impact Assessments on Long-Term Quality Stability of OMPS SDR Data Sets

The Nadir Mapper (NM) and Profiler (NP) within the Ozone Mapping Suites (OMPS) are ultraviolet spectrometers to measure Earth radiance Solar irradiance spectra from 300–380 nm 250–310 nm, respectively. OMPS NM NP instruments flying on Suomi-NPP (SNPP) satellite have provided over ten years of operational Sensor Data Records (SDRs) data sets support a variety Environmental Record (EDR) applications. However, discrepancies quality remain in SDR prior 28 June 2021 due changes calibration algorithms associated with coefficient look-up tables (LUTs) during this period. In study, we present results for newly (v2) reprocessed SNPP 30 2021, which uses consistent improved accuracy. Compared previous (v1) reprocessing, new reprocessing includes improvements following updated or error correction: an stray light correction table NM, off-nadir geolocation artificial offset dark processing code, biweekly solar wavelength LUTs NP. This study further analyzes impact each improvement by taking advantage existing calibration/validation studies. Finally, compares v2 v1 sets. demonstrate that significantly improves accuracy consistency life-time It also advances uniformity dichroic range 300 310 between normalized differences at same observations reduced 0.001 order (v1 reprocessing) 0.01 (operational processing) smaller. archived NOAA CLASS center format as data.
